Waqrapukara is a great alternative for those looking for adventure and cultural tours, this ancient archaeological site offers visitors an impressive landscape and living culture. The Waqrapukara Fortress is an ancient archaeological site hidden in the heights of the sky of Acomayo, it is a place that brings back the memory of our ancestors and their coexistence with the flora and fauna. The building rises to 4300 meters above sea level at the top of a ravine, in the district of Acos, province of Acomayo, department of Cusco.
We will begin the day very early and pick you up from your respective hotels between 4:00 and 4:20 am. From there we will drive for 3 hours towards the village of Pitumarca, where we will enjoy a delicious and filling breakfast.
After breakfast we will begin our 8 kilometer trek. We will pass by lakes, glaciers, valleys, beautiful countryside views and also learn about the flora and fauna. Once we arrive at the highest peak of this trek, we will rest and take time to enjoy the incredible scenery and take lots of photos. Then we will continue towards our destination of Waqrapukara, which is believed to be a sanctuary of great political and religious power in the area. Here we will eat lunch and your guide will teach you all about the region and the history of this mysterious site. After lunch, we will have time to tour the archaeological site and take lots of photographs before our return to Pitumarca, where we will take our vehicle back to Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco around 6:00 pm and drop you off at Plaza Regocijos.
BRIEFING:
Prior to departure you will have a meeting with your guide in our office to go over all the details regarding your trip. The orientation will be at 6:30 pm the night before your trip.
EXPERIENCE OF OUR GUIDES :
All of our guides have a minimum of 3 years of guiding experience. They are professional, responsible, and all have a deep love and respect for mother nature and her mountains. They will make sure your trip is safe and enjoyable.
FIRST AID:
All of our guides are certified in high mountain first aid training. They always carry a first aid kit on our treks (including pills for altitude sickness, diarrhea, vomiting, cuts, and cream for muscle aches). They also carry extra oxygen in cases of emergency.
TRANSPORTATION:
all of our transport vehicles are designed for tourist activities and will come pick you up from your hotel at the agreed upon time with your guide. All of our vehicles have their proper documentation in order and have been inspected for proper safety measures.
FOOD:
1 BREAKFAST, 1 LUNCH:
Our restaurants will prepare you a delicious and filling breakfast and lunch. Our clients have loved the food prepared for them on their treks, and our chefs are also able to accommodate any dietary restrictions (such as vegetarian or vegan) at no extra cost. Please let your guide know at orientation if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies so we can organize ahead of time.
SNACKS FOR TREKKING:
Before the trek begins our guide will provide you with local fruits, chocolates, candies, water, etc. in a small biodegradable lunch sack.
